Referee Allocation Information For Coaches
The league will appoint referees for as many games as possible. At the start of the season priority will be given to U14 matches and cup games. As the season progresses we will look at how we allocate officials and adjust things accordingly. We aim to appoint referees 4-8 weeks ahead of fixtures where possible. But this may be as little as 14 days prior to the fixture if a referee becomes available.
Whilst we aim to give as much notice of appointments/removals as possible if a referee becomes unavailable they will be removed from the game and we will give as much notice as possible. If a referee becomes available at short notice (less than 7 days) we will message teams directly to see if they require a referee prior to allocating.
Coaches will receive an email from full-time when the official has been appointed and then again 14 days & 7 days prior to the fixture. It is down to the home coach to contact the match official on the details provided no later than the Wednesday prior to a weekend fixture.
The coach must confirm
- the location of the match including postcode.
- the time of kick off, if this changes this must be agreed with the referee.
- how the referee wishes to be paid. The referee will then confirm the fee including mileage to be paid. If cash then this should be paid prior to kick off, if bank transfer then this should be done and confirmed no later than midday the day after the fixture.
If the referee is under 18 you will be liaising with their parent/guardian throughout.
Should a referee fail to reply to your message or there are any issues on the day of the game please WhatsApp or message the referee secretary on 07518717415.
Please be aware clubs do not have the option of telling the referee they are not required for the fixture, any queries must go through the league referees appointment officer msnyfl.referee@gmail.com
If your game is postponed for any reason it is the responsibility of the home coach to contact the referee and inform them as early as possible. If a referee arrives at a venue and the game is not fulfilled the full fee will be payable.
The match fees for referees are below:
As a league the match fees are as follows:
Under 10 £20 + 35p per mile travelling
Under 11-12 £25.00 + 35p per mile travelling
Under 13-14 £28 + 35p per mile travelling
Under 15-16 £32 + 35p per mile travelling
The only time a team will not need to pay the match officials will be cup semi-finals and finals which will be organised by the league and charged back via league invoices at the end of the season.
After the game when you complete your match returns you are asked to score your referees performance and also offer feedback this is important to us so that we can monitor our referees and help their development. When scoring your referee please remember its not based on an opinion of a single decision but their performance across the whole game, just giving a score of 100 is very unlikely a true reflection of their performance, but giving a low score just above the report threshold to avoid giving more feedback is also unhelpful. We want both the referee and your teams to get the most out of the match. Please keep all feedback constructive as we will use this to help develop our referees.
Please also remember a number of our referees are Under 18 and we ask that you remind all players, coaches and parents that their actions on a matchday both positive and negative will have an effect on the referee, clubs are responsible for their supporters at all times.
All enquires can be emailed to msnyfl.referee@gmail.com or msnyfl.secretary@gmail.com
